I have to admit, I have not supported Gov. Paul LePage in many of his decisions since he became governor, but his support of a “day of prayer” is maybe something this country needs.

While there are many who don’t believe that this country was founded on Christian principles, there is the undisputed fact that, at various times, our nation’s leaders have prayed.

The naysayers keep bringing up the constitutional ban on the government endorsing a specific religion, but they fail to quote that First Amendment in its entirety:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; of the right of the people to peaceably assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”

For too long, people have let a very small minority act as if they are the majority and are speaking for the nation as a whole when, in fact, they are voicing their own minority opinion.

We are not all the lemmings they think we are.

Let’s have that day of prayer.
