Of the 28 applicants who will take the semi-annual examinations for admission to the Maine bar, four are from Lewiston: Hercules E. Belleau, Robert J. Curran, Henry Hamel and Rodolph G. Roy. The examinations will be held in the grand jury room at the County Court House on Federal Street, Portland. These examinations are given by the state bar examining board and after passing the examinations, candidates are eligible for admission to the bar.

Mrs. Richard B. Olfene of Auburn has been appointed general chairman of a Roaring Twenties costume dance to be held at the Martindale Country Club, Aug. 12, for club members and their guests. Everyone attending must be in costume, and reservations are to be made with Mrs. Olfene.
Dancing will last from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., and at intermission a floor show will be presented. Music will be provided by Gus Lothrop’s Orchestra.

From now on, those taking civil service exams in Auburn will know what the score is before they sit down to write.
While applicants vying for entrance-level positions and in-house promotions in both the police and fire departments have, in the past, routinely not been told the score they earned but only if they were certified, the Auburn Civil Service Commission said Monday night that it will operate under new guidelines.
Meeting as a board for the first time since Nancy Kendall was appointed to round out the three-member board, the commission set 70 percent as the passing score for tests, and decided to consider rotating the exams in the future.
