WATERFORD — Maine humorist Tim Sample,  who gained a national reputation with his four best-selling albums released on the Bert and I label between 1982-89, will perform on Thursday, Aug. 4.

Sample will bring his Down East humor to the North Waterford Church. The 7 p.m. show will benefit the Waterford Historical Society.

The stand-up comedian recently released his 10th album of Maine humor, “Tim Sample Live at Stone Mountain Arts Center,” recorded at the venue in Brownfield in the fall of 2010. The third edition of his popular “Maine Curiosities” book was published in May.

Touring pretty much nonstop through the 1980s and 1990s, Sample averaged about 150 shows a year, performing in 26 states and Canada and appearing on numerous national and regional TV specials. These days, he has a more relaxed schedule. He continues to write and record, and performs about 60-70 shows a year.

Tickets for the family-friendly show on Aug. 4 are $15 in advance, $18 at the door. Tickets may be purchased at Books-N-Things, 430 Main St., Norway, and Bridgton Books, 52 Main St., Bridgton. Seating is limited.
