LOVELL — Folk musicians and composers Heather Pierson and Davy Sturtevant will perform solo and together on Thursday, Aug. 4, at the Brick Church for the Performing Arts. They will sing a varied repertoire of original songs and well-known music that touches the heart.

Pierson was born on the edge of the American West and raised on the South’s blues, jazz and soul, music that is both celebratory and melancholy. After delving into these genres and many more in her growth as a musician, her explorations culminated in the release of “Make It Mine.” This collection of 16 songs explores the universal themes of love, loss, hope and perseverance in a manner reminiscent of such songwriters as Joni Mitchell.

In a career spanning three decades, her performances and songwriting have captured the depth and character of her heartland roots and the beauty of her New England home.

Sturtevant first appeared at the Brick Church in 2009, in collaboration with SoMar Dance Works. He switches easily between guitars, mandolin, lap steel and electric violin, and sings finely crafted original songs.

A prolific musician, he has played roles in many recordings as artist, sideman, engineer and producer. His most recent solo CD, “Dis-Ease: A Coming Out,” is both an expression of his despair and affirmations of triumph over bi-polar disorder. The assortment of musical styles on this CD demonstrates his diverse tastes in music.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12. They will be available at the door. Refreshments will be served at intermission. he Brick Church is on Christian Hill Road. For more information, call 925-2792 or visit www.lovellbrickchurch.org.
