RUMFORD — Roland T. ‘Frenchy’ Litalien, 86, of Harlow Hill Road in Mexico, died Saturday, July 30, at Rumford Hospital, following a brief illness.
He was born in Jay on August 17, 1924, a son of George and Mary (Vaillancourt) Litalien. He was educated in Jay schools and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Catherine McDonald on July 17, 1948, and together they celebrated 63 years of marriage. He was employed for 40 years with Oxford Paper Company. He was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior. He was a 68-year member of the American Legion, a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the LeParesseux Snowshoe Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool, and most recently playing beano.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Catherine (McDonald) Litalien; sons, David Litalien and wife, Susan, of Mexico, Gerald Litalien and wife, Elizabeth, of Mexico, and Paul Litalien and companion, Tammy Martineau, of Rumford; three sisters, Bernadette Arsenault of Lewiston, Yvonne Hurd of Brunswick, Theresa LaPlante of Peru; two brothers, Roger Litalien and wife, Cecile, of Bowdoinham, and George Litalien Jr. and wife, Anita, of Peru; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents; three sisters, Albertine Smith, Joanne Fournier, and Irma Bilodeau; and a brother, Donald Litalien.
