RUMFORD — Rumford Grange 115 held its annual open house on July 16 at the Grange hall, Rumford Center.

Rumford Selectman Jeff Sterling was named Citizen of the Year at the event. Sterling, a long-time Sunday River Resort employee, has lived in the area for many years and has been active in local organizations.

Formerly treasurer for the Rumford Point Community Athletic Association, he worked to improve the baseball field at Rumford Point. He has served on the boards of the Greater Rumford Community Center, Black Mountain of Maine, SAD 43, Region 9 School of Applied Technology and the Western Foothills RSU 10 school district.

Sterling and his family live on Martin Road. Rumford Town Manager Carlo Puiia spoke about Sterling’s achievements.

Grange member Wendell Easter, Rumford Point, was given a certificate of service as a 70-year member of the Grange. He also received a certificate of appreciation from members for his efforts in keeping the Grange active. Relatives discussed good memories from years past.

Other activities during the open house included a lecture on spruce gum by David Fuller. A luncheon was served.
