Shelter preparing
LEWISTON — The Greater Androscoggin Humane Society will be closed during normal business hours on Friday, Aug. 5, enabling staff and volunteers to prepare for the first 24-hour Super Adoption Event. The shelter will re-open at 6 p.m. Friday, remaining open for 24 hours.

Antique car show
POLAND — The Poland Historical Society will hold a summer antique vehicle show, bakery sale and food court from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Poland District 22 Schoolhouse, Maine Street.
Sale proceeds will benefit the building fund for the memorabilia barn. The food sale will include homemade breads, cookies, fudge and other candies. There will also be a house plants table. Food court items will include chicken salad rolls, homemade chili, garden salad, beverages, apple pie or cookies.
Ride for camp
LEWISTON — A contingent of 50 or more motorcycling enthusiasts will ride from Lewiston to Stoneham to celebrate the life of the late Andrew B. Williams, a former Susan Curtis camper who is remembered for his compassionate work with those in need. The riders will leave 105 Middle St. at 9 a.m.
Event organizers Kenneth Allen, Fern Williams and others are working to raise funds in connection with the event.
Proceeds will be used to purchase a memorial headstone, with any balance to sponsor disadvantaged Maine children at Camp Susan Curtis.

Golden Agers
AUBURN — The Golden Age Club of Cluster 16 will meet at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, at the Sacred Heart Church meeting room.
Dinner will be served at noon and reservations must be called in to Paula at 576-4082 by Sunday, Aug. 7.
Members are asked to bring a photo or something for show and tell.
Membership is open to new members, but reservations must be made ahead for the meal.
Breastfeeding support
AUBURN — The La Leche League, which offers breastfeeding information and encouragement to pregnant women, new mothers and growing families,will meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, at 102 Bennett Ave. Babies are welcome.
All concerns about breastfeeding are welcome for discussion in addition to the scheduled topic, “ Breastfeeding, the Mother-Baby Relationship and the Weaning Process.” The discussion will include nutrition for nursing mothers, introducing solids to baby and the weaning breastfed baby.

To help food bank
CUMBERLAND — United Maine Craftsmen will help feed Maine’s hungry and “Stuff the Truck” for the Good Shepherd Food-Bank on Saturday, Aug. 13, at their show at the Cumberland Fairgrounds.
Patrons will be asked to bring a nonperishable food with them to the show and will receive a free admission pass for the following day.
On Sunday, Aug. 14, local farmers will set up to sell their produce, meats, cheeses, honey and maple syrup.
Every August for the past 42 years, the fairgrounds has been turned into a marketplace featuring Maine arts and crafts, displayed and sold by the artisan. The show will run from Thursday to Sunday, Aug. 11 to 14.
