The David Dorfman Dance troupe, a Bates Dance Festival favorite, will present “Prophets of Funk,” featuring the music of Sly and the Family Stone, on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 5-6. Dorfman uses Sly Stone’s visceral and powerful music of prophetic love to remind us that amidst the funk of life, hopes and aspirations still reside in all of us. David Dorfman Dance, founded in 1985, has performed extensively in New York City and throughout the Americas, Great Britain and Europe, most recently in Russia and Poland. Dorfman and the company’s dancers and collaborators have earned eight New York Dance and Performance (“Bessie”) Awards. Performances will take place at 8 p.m. at Bates College’s Schaeffer Theatre, 305 College St., Lewiston. Tickets are $24, $12 for students and seniors. For tickets, call 786-6161 between 1 and 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday or visit www.batestickets.com.
