LEWISTON — The Center for Wisdom’s Women is holding a “Sunflower Stroll” throughout August featuring 22 pieces of sunflower art in 12 locations in Lewiston and Auburn.

The event is a treasure hunt of sorts, intended to offer some summer fun, while raising awareness about the Center for Wisdom’s Women, a drop-in center for all women in downtown Lewiston. All 19 artists have agreed to share their artwork, with 30 percent of proceeds of art sold going to the women’s center.

Linda Jackson Washburn, center board member, envisioned and organized the event. She said, “This project was designed to increase people’s awareness of the women’s center and its mission and that we hold a positive outlook for its future.”  She added, “It’s my hope that the public will take the stroll and enjoy the delightful surprises along the route, whether it be the pieces themselves or the spaces in

Event booklets are available at participating venues and at the women’s center. Those who visit all the sites will be eligible to enter a drawing for prizes. They may also nominate one piece of sunflower art for a “People’s Choice” award.

The temporary center location, during renovation of the facility, is Trinity Episcopal Church, 257 Bates St. It is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon. Programs are free. For a calendar of activities, call 513-3922 or visit www.wisdomswomen.org.
