Lewiston — Anita F. Nadeau, 85, of 48 York Road, Minot, and formerly a long- time resident of Elliot Ave., died Saturday, Aug. 6, at Ouellette’s Adult Foster Home, where she resided for the past seven months, with her family by her side.

Born in Lewiston on Jan. 28, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Anaise Cote Bannister. Anita was one of 10 children and helped her grandmother take care of her siblings when her own mother died when Anita was 8 years old. She received her GED from Lewiston High School in 1983. She was married to Ange J. Nadeau on July 28, 1945, and together they raised their five children. He died Sept. 12, 1987.

Anita was a member of The Prince of Peace Parish at The Basilica of Ss. Peter and Paul. She was always busy in the home in addition to making clothes for her children. She eventually went out into the workforce, working at such places as Murphy Furs, a local shoe box factory, Maine Electronics in Lisbon, and even drove a school bus for the Lewiston school system, in addition to fulfilling her role as a homemaker. Later in life, she volunteered at CMMC Hospital and Androscoggin Home Health. Before going to Ouellette’s Adult Foster Home, Anita was lovingly cared for by her daughter-in-law, Barbara, and her children in Richard and Barbara’s home. She was loved by everyone, and her family was privileged to have her for 85 years.

She enjoyed knitting, reading, dancing, traveling, going out to eat with friends, and family gatherings.

She is survived by her daughter, Jacquie Allaire and husband, Gene, of Jay; 4 sons, Richard Nadeau and wife, Barbara, of Minot, Larry Nadeau and companion, Sarah, of Turner, Marty Nadeau and companion, Debbie, of Auburn, Normand Nadeau and wife, Tina, of Auburn; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Dolores Lafrance and husband, Raymond, of Fla.; a brother-in-law, Albert Sylvain and his wife, Helen; and her sisters-in-law, Leola, Dorothy, and Julie Bannister.

She was also predeceased by 3 sisters, Laurette Champagne, Louise Anne Parent, and Lucia Sylvain; and 5 brothers, Leo, Lucien, Camille, Roland and Adrien Bannister.

The family wishes to thank Carolee Taylor and her mom, Janie, and Carolee’s daughter, Red, the staff at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice, especially Oralie O’Neil R.N., and a special thanks to Ron Ouellette and the dedicated staff at Ouellette’s Adult Foster Home.
