AUBURN — Lt. Col. Vital G.E. Turmenne, 89, of 6 Bobby Street, Lewiston, died Friday, August 5, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin, following a brief illness.

He was born in Lewiston, Maine on June 6, 1922 the son of Edmond and Laura (Bernier) Turmenne, and was a resident of this community all of his life.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having proudly served in WWII, the Korean War, and Vietnam. He had retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.

He was a member of the Elks Club, NRA, VFW, Fairlawn Country Club, and a parishioner of Holy Cross Church. Vital was an avid golfer. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and most of all, spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, the former Pauline Dick, of Lewiston, whom he married on January 13, 1944; one son, Paul Turmenne and his wife, Billie, of Huntsville, Ala.; two daughters, Connie Slowey and her husband, Tom, of North Attleboro, Mass., and Dee Dion and her fiancé, Dan Briggs, of Lewiston; five grandchildren, Michelle Parker, Sabrina Richmond and Suzanne Turmenne of San Antonio, Texas, and Robbie and Courtney Dion, of Lewiston; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Dominique Turmenne, of Auburn; one sister, Gemma Boucher, of California; and nieces and nephews.
