AUGUSTA — Elton F. Perkins of Poland, formerly of Greene, died peacefully Sunday, Aug. 7, at Togus Hospice.
The son of Elton F. and Annie G. Perkins, he was born June 5, 1924, in Greene. He married Jane Curran on Aug. 23, 1947, she passed away in 1984. He has shared his life and laughter for the last 22 years with Lucille Goudreau. They enjoyed the motorhome, traveling to New Mexico, California, and Nevada with stops at Foxwoods on the way to Florida, where they wintered.
He served in the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. Upon his return, he began the first of numerous businesses, employing many of the Greene residents, Greene Auto Sales, Perkins Lumber Co., Perkins Truck and Trailer.
He is survived by his companion, Lucille Goudreau; children, Robert and Peggy Perkins, Peter and Joye Perkins and Mary and John Newman; grandchildren, Tracey and Scott Perkins, John and Jeri Newman, Tyler Perkins, Nicole and Meagan Gilbert, Chris and Jen Garrity and Jen and Mark Turcotte.
We give a huge thank-you to the staff of Togus Hospice, where they made his final days comfortable.
