LEWISTON — Encore Music Creations, a trio of musicians from the Eastman School of Music and Yale Institute of Sacred Music, will perform in concert on Wednesday, Aug. 10, at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul.
Encore Music Creations has shared music from classical, sacred and jazz traditions at venues ranging from cathedrals and country churches to private homes in the United States and abroad.
Last year, Encore traveled across half of Norway and gave a series of concerts in New England. The trio will present an eclectic program at the basilica, using its magnificent organ and concert piano.
The 7:30 p.m. concert by Brett Judson, Scott Perkins and Lars Gjerde is free, but free will offerings will be accepted.
Judson has studied with leading American organists and, in 2008, received the Barnes Award for Excellence in Pipe Organ from the Eastman School of Music. He was a finalist in the 2010 Poister Organ Competition. He has conducted the Crystal Cathedral orchestra and recently played on the National Public Radio show “Pipedreams!” He is associate minister of music at First Presbyterian Church in New Canaan, Conn.
Perkins, a tenor, enjoys a multifaceted career as an international prize-winning composer, a versatile performer, an award-winning scholar and a music educator. His music includes art songs, musical theater, solo instrumental works, choral music, electroacoustic installations, and music for film and church. He has collaborated with Tony Award-winning playwrights, Emmy-winning filmmakers and prizewinning poets. He is a member of the professional Christ Church choir in New Haven, Conn.
Gjerde taught secondary organ lessons at Eastman and sang alto with the Christ Church Schola Cantorum. He was a second national winner in the Music Teachers National Association Collegiate Organ Competition, and he earned honorable mention in the Reuter/Augustana Arts National Undergraduate Organ Competition. He has played on the National Public Radio show “Pipedreams!” Since 2010, he has been director of music at Bethesda Lutheran Church in New Haven, Conn.
