LEWISTON — Emma L. Jordan, 80, of Elmhurst, N.Y., formerly of Sabattus, died Monday, Aug. 8, at Marshwood Nursing Facility.

She was born in Lisbon Falls, May 21, 1931, a daughter of the late Berties and Elsie (Wheeler) Jordan. She was educated locally and graduated from Sabattus High School, Class of 1949. Emma then went on to attend CMG Hospital School of Nursing graduating from the class of 1952 B. She then attended Providence Bible Institute until 1957 and then received her B.S. degree in Nursing Education in 1961.

In 1963, she then received her master’s degree. She was a nursing instructor in Plattsburg, N.Y., for a year. Then for several years was a private duty nurse until she became a nursing instructor at St. John’s hospital in New York, where she remained for 12 years. Later she became an intensive care nurse until she retired from St. John’s hospital in 1991.

Emma was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in New York, and on her many trips to Maine would attend the West Bowdoin Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and traveling the U.S.

Emma is survived by a brother, Lee Jordan and his wife, Lyn, of Bowdoin; a sister, Alice Jordan of Sabattus; a sister-in-law, Carol Jordan of Bowdoin; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Fred and Ellery Jordan.
