JAY — The Jay High School Envirothon team of Beth Moore, Lexi Deering, Sam Hutchinson, Isaac Couture, Kristy Macomber and Jacob Roy went to the Canon International Envirothon in Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada, recently.
The team took 20th overall out of 54 teams. They took seventh in forestry (78/100), 13th in estuaries (83/100), 17th in soils (78/100), 18th in wildlife (79/100), 20th in oral presentation (146/200) and 48th in aquatics (58/100).
They were 17 points (out of 700) away from being in the top 15 and receiving scholarship money. The students beat a number of magnet schools, charter schools and schools that specialize in environmental science.
They visited many sites in New Brunswick and learned about its ecology and culture.
