RUMFORD — The Rumford Heart Walk Organizing Committee is accepting nominations for the 2011 American Heart Association Lifestyle Change Award. Those who know someone who is now on the exercise bandwagon, consider nominating them to receive the award at this year’s Heart Walk on Sunday, Sept. 18, at Hosmer Field.

The nominee does not have to be someone who has heart disease. The nominee can be young or old, female or male. In addition to nutrition and exercise changes, the nominee may have quit tobacco or other unhealthy habits.

Lifestyle Change nomination forms can be obtained from Sandy Witas (364-7408) at the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition on River Street or in the Rumford Hospital lobby.

The Heart Walk will begin with registration and a complimentary breakfast at 8 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 18. There will be zumba warm-ups and opportunities to showcase pets through the Pet Challenge. Dogs and cats will vie to see who can raise the most money for the Heart Walk.

The walk will begin at 9 a.m. Participants may choose to walk around the Hosmer Field track, follow the path by Swift River to complete a one-mile walk or choose the two- or four-mile walk. They can walk as an individual or as a family, join one of the existing teams or organize a team at work.

Teams participating this year are Becky’s Heart Beats, a friends and family team, Community Energy, Franklin Savings Bank, Med-Care, Oxford Federal Credit Union, Region 9, River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition, River Valley Internal Medicine, Rumford Hospital, Victoria Villa, Young Marines and Sykes from Wilton.
