PORTLAND — Cumberland County voters will decide whether to spend up to $33 million to renovate the Cumberland County Civic Center.
County commissioners voted 2-1 Monday to put the matter before county voters in November.
Commissioners Jim Cloutier and Richard Feeney said low interest rates, hungry contractors and the county’s excellent credit rating mean the county should get a good deal.
The Portland Press Herald reported that the vote will decide whether the Portland Pirates hockey team stays in Portland, at least through 2014.
The proposed renovations would make the arena handicapped-accessible, improve the restrooms, loading docks and the facade, increasing the number of concessions and make other improvements.
