FARMINGTON — They are not large, but each of the colorful quilts displayed near the children’s section at Devaney, Doak and Garrett Booksellers this month represents a favorite children’s tale or author.

The local bookstore will host a quilt show at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug.16, at the bookstore. The quilts, each at least 100 inches by not less than 144 inches, are on display there for the month of August.

The quilt-makers, members of Art Quilts Maine, will be on hand to celebrate the exhibition, “Inspiration Transformation,” a group challenge.

After the group attended a workshop, “Transforming Images and Inspirations,” with Dona Seegers, they each took elements from an author’s text and illustrations to create an original design showing their passion for the book.

The results are on display and the public is invited to Tuesday’s exhibition.
