AUGUSTA — William “Bill” Finn, 75, died Aug. 10, at his home, after a long battle with cancer.

Bill was born in Lewiston, the son of the late John A. Finn and Mary (Ault) Finn. He graduated from Lewiston High School, where he was valedictorian and an all-state basketball player. In 1957, he graduated from Yale University, where he was a member of the varsity basketball team.

In 1958, he married Suzanne Quigg of Auburn. Bill graduated in 1962 from Boston University School of Law, where he was a Bigelow Scholar and an editor of the Law Review. He was subsequently associated with an Augusta law firm that included James Reid, Brooks Brown, George Wathen and Daniel Wathen.

He joined the legal department at Central Maine Power Co. (CMP) in 1968, eventually assuming the roles of associate general counsel and secretary at CMP and Maine Yankee Atomic Power Co. He retired in 1995. Since then, he has primarily worked as a legal consultant in the electric utility field.

Bill was a member of the American and Maine State Bar Associations and the American Society of Corporate Secretaries. An avid golfer, he has been a longstanding member of the Augusta Country Club, where he served on the board of directors for 15 years. He was also a member of the Western Maine Yale Club and enjoyed his role as an interviewer of local high school students interested in attending Yale.

Bill is survived by his wife, Suzanne Finn of Augusta; daughters, Julia Finn and husband, A. Robert Ruesch and Meredith Finn, all of Portland; granddaughters, Rebecca and Bailey Ruesch of Portland; brothers, John Finn and wife, Sharon, of Beverly, Mass., James Finn and wife, Joann, of Bath and Charles Finn of Woolwich; sister, Mary Jane Poulin and husband, Tom, of Chicago, Ill.; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and many longtime friends.

Throughout his lengthy illness, he gained strength from the generous support of his close friends and family.
