BUCKFIELD — Registrations are being accepted by the Buckfield Recreation Committee for the 2011 soccer season. Teams will be participating in the Turner area league. The program is for grades K-6. Sixth graders are strongly encouraged to register now in the event that the junior high program exceeds its numbers and cannot acccommodate all sixth-grade students.
Sign up at the Buckfield Town Office during regular business hours or Friday, August 19 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Cross Road ballfields. Registration fee is $30. Checks are payable to Town of Buckfield. Payment is expected to accompany registration.

Baseball tryout and hitting camp
Coast to Coast Baseball invites local players ages 10 to 18 to one of its upcoming tryout events. At the tryout, staff will evaluate skills in four areas: hitting, fielding, arm strength and speed.
Since the summer of 2001, more than 2,000 athletes from 46 different states have participated in the Coast to Coast program. Alumni now compete at every level of collegiate baseball, and even professionally.
Players who are accepted into the program may chpoose to represent the United States in competition in Puerto Rico or work with top college coaches and pro scouts at a Florida or Arizona camp and showcase event, held at Major League Baseball spring training complexes.
In addition to the tryout, an instructional hitting camp will be held the same day. The goal of the camp is to help players improve hitting fundamentals as well as their mental approach at the plate.
Events will be held at Southern Maine Sports Zone in Saco (indoor) on Saturday, August 20 and Mansfield Stadium in bangor (outdoor) on Sunday, August 21. Tryouts begin at 10 a.m. each day, with the hitting camp scheduled at 2 p.m.

Scarborough road race
SCARBOROUGH — The Scarborough Summerfest 5K and one-mile races will be held Friday, August 19 at the Scarborough High School athletic complex.
A one mile race (13 & under) will be held at 6 p.m. with the 5K race going off at 6:30pm. The races are sponsored by the Scarborough Track and Cross Country Boosters. Registration fees are $10 for the one mile race and $15 for the 5K race. Race day registrations are $20. If registration is received before Friday, August 19, each registered person will receive a t-shirt. Registration the day of the race will begin at 4pm at the tent near the tennis courts.
The one mile race and the 5K race are wheel-measured. In the kids race, everyone that finishes will receive a medal and the first boy and girl will receive a plaque. In the 5K race the top overall male and female will be awarded a plaque. All runners finishing the race, their names will be put into a drawing for many other awards.
The race is sanction by Maine USATF, and race results will be posted on the meusatf.org web site. The start of the 5K race is in front of the Scarborough Public Library and continues on around the Wentworth school, onto Gorham Road to Sawyer Road, to the sidewalk on Route 1, and then through the High School lot to the Gorham Road sidewalk and then to the finish line near the tennis courts.
