After examining the five sick members of the Berube household, including Phillip Coutounier, a boarder who is believed to have contracted the disease in a New Hampshire lumbering camp, Dr. A Young of Augusta, and Dr. W. L. Haskell of this city have diagnosed the illness as a mild form of small pox. The eight tenement block in which they live at 198 Lincoln St., has been placed under quarantine by the board of health.

Efforts are being made to trace telephone calls which recently have been made to the Sabattus Street fire sub-station at 3 o’clock in the morning. The calls, made over a period of time, awaken firemen needlessly and when they answer the telephone, the caller hangs up without speaking.

The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department hopes to put to rest any doubts the County Commission has about the deployment of 11 department vehicles.
County Sheriff Ron Gagnon and Public Safety Director Raymond Lafrance are drafting a report to account for use of their cruisers and transport vehicles. The report, which Gagnon says should be ready in two weeks, is being compiled at the request of the commission chairman, Emile Jacques.
