BLUE HILL — Charlotte Lillian (Harris) Colby, 72, of Penobscot, died at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital on Aug. 11.

She was born Aug. 31, 1938, in Bass Harbor, the daughter of the Rev. Wallace H. and Eunice (Reed) Harris. She graduated from South Portland High School in 1956 and Gorham State Teacher’s College in 1966, with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.

She was a member of the East Millinocket First Congregational Church, UCC. She loved to sing in the church choir. She taught third grade at Opal Myrick Elementary School from 1966 to 1969. Charlotte married Alden R. Colby on Aug. 17, 1968.

Charlotte was a literacy volunteer for adults in the East Millinocket area. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, UCC in Springfield, as well as a member of the choir and president of the Ladies Circle. Charlotte moved with her family to Penobscot in 1992, and was member of the West Brooksville Congregational Church, UCC. She sang in the choir and special musical groups. Charlotte was employed several years as a travel ambassador for the Province of New Brunswick.

Charlotte is survived by her husband; two daughters, Kimberly Strondak of Westbrook and Jennifer Colby-Morse of Dixfield; one sister, Amy Harris of Somerville, Mass.; two brothers, James Harris of Truro, Mass., and Charles Harris of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and three grandsons.
