PORTLAND — On Saturday, Sept. 10, the 3rd annual walk in honor of Kimberly Ann Tudor (KAT) will take place around a 3.5-mile stretch of the Back Cove Boulevard. Event day registration starts at noon, with the walk following at 1 p.m. September is Brain Aneurysm Awareness month in Maine and the proceeds from the walk will benefit the Brain Aneurysm Foundation.

On Dec. 28, 2008, Kimberly passed away suddenly after suffering a ruptured brain aneurysm at her home. Kim was born in Portland on March 1, 1976, and graduated from Deering High School in 1994, as her class salutatorian. She continued her education at the University of New England, earning a Bachelor of Science in business administration and sports and fitness management, graduating cum laude in 1998.

Kim had a passion for athletics and played softball for the Coastal Athletics Women’s Softball Team for 14 years, participating in many state championships, out-of-state-tournaments and five national tournaments.

A brain aneurysm is a weak bulge on the wall of an artery in the brain and can catastrophically rupture. One in 50 people in the United States have an unruptured brain aneurysm. Thirty thousand people will suffer a rupture annually, of which 40 percent will die as a result. Four of seven people who survive will have disabilities. The Brain Aneurysm Foundation is the nation’s only nonprofit organization solely dedicated to providing critical awareness, education, support and research funding to reduce the incidence of brain aneurysm ruptures.
