OXFORD — The Woodstock Tigers farm league softball team finished the season an undefeated 13-0 after winning a nail-biting championship game, 7-5, over Otisfield at Pismo Beach.
After a shaky start, mostly due to nerves, Woodstock came back from being down 1-0 through the fifth inning to tie it up and eventually pull ahead with five more runs in the sixth.
Outstanding hitting from Kylee Martin, Morgan Prentice, Annika Mitchell and Erin Childs were key in rallying the Tigers into the lead. A seventh-inning double by Mykiah Bennett pushed the lead to 7-4, leaving it up to relief pitcher Childs to close out the win. She did so by striking out four batters in two innings.
Woodstock hoisted the championship trophy for the second year in a row. The team also would like to congratulate its sister squad, the senior Little League softball team, on its huge victory the same day.
“Although we finished with a perfect record, it paled in comparison to what our team accomplished this season. That is learning how to play softball, playing together as a team, and having a ton of fun,” coach Jeff Prentice said. “We all contributed at the plate and in the field, making this season so special for the Woodstock Tigers. I truly enjoyed coaching such a wonderful group of young ladies.”
