OXFORD — Ryan Hewins and Danny Morris earned feature wins in their respective divisions Saturday night, as 92.7 WOXO presented a full card of championship points racing at Oxford Plains Speedway.

Hewins, of Leeds, won the 30-lap Strictly Stock battle, while Auburn’s Danny Morris drove to victory in the 30-lap Mini Stock feature.

Scott Farrington, Mike Haynes and Troy Jordan were also feature winners on another perfect late-summer night for racing.

Hewins has been strong on several occasions during his rookie season in Strictly Stock, and finally put it all together to post that first win. David Tripp chased Hewins the entire distance but settled for second, while defending class champion Kurt Hewins (Ryan’s father) came home third. Another father and son team, Larry and Zach Emerson, finished fourth and fifth respectively.

“We’ve worked on this car a lot lately,” Hewins said after smoking his tires in celebration. “My dad and I built this car, it took two years to complete and it’s finally hooked up like it should be. I have to thank this whole team and my car owners, Eric Brown and Scott Brewer. They’re the absolute best owners in the business.

“We’ve got more sponsors than most teams, and that’s what it takes along with a fast car to be successful. I’m just thrilled to win a feature before the season draws to a close.”

Morris blasted around the outside of Kevin Bishop on lap 10 and cruised home to his first victory of 2011. The former divisional champion held off Jimmy Childs for top honors, forcing the veteran from Leeds to wait yet another week as he goes for career win No. 43.

Lewiston’s Mike Beaule put in a solid performance to claim third, while Bishop and point leader Darrell Moore completed the top five.

“The car was great in the heat race and excellent in the feature, as well,” Morris said as he celebrated his 30th birthday in Victory Lane. “It ran good last week, so we loaded it in the trailer and left it alone. We did a bit of engine tuning, but other than that, we didn’t change a thing. I can’t thank the guys on this team enough. It sure feels great to win one.”

In earlier feature action, Farrington powered his way around the outside of George Fortin on lap two, survived a challenge from Justin Larsen on a restart and drove away to claim the 20-lap Runnin Rebel tilt. Kyle Hewins made an exciting late-race charge from deep in the field to finish second, while Larsen settled for third. Jamie Heath and Jamie Leavitt rounded out the top five.

“The car is definitely getting better every week,” Farrington said. “We keep tweaking little things here and there, and it keeps making a difference. You have to make sure you stay ahead of the competition. That’s the name of this game.”

Haynes won what was easily the closest race of the night, edging Mike Childs by inches for the 30-lap Outlaw B feature win. Pat Maloy came from deep in the field to finish third, while Lewiston’s Missy Morgan and Curt Chapman completed the top five.

“I think I have a transmission leak on this car,” a surprised Haynes said after the run. “I changed a seal and an O-Ring the other night, but it must still be leaking. It may have smoked a little, but it held together long enough to get the win and that feels great.”

Jordan survived a wild late-race melee to claim the Outlaw A feature. The veteran from Turner powered his way past Dennis Morang on lap 10 and hung on for top honors. Bill Coolidge ran among the leaders all night and finished second, while Addison Bowie came home third. David Childs and Morang completed the top five.

“I wanted to get out front as soon as I could and stay out of trouble,” Jordan said after posting his second career victory. “I figured the No. 5 (David Childs) and the No. 3 (Josh Childs) would be coming, but they never got free of traffic. It always feels good to hold off the competition in this class, a win sure is sweet.”
