RUMFORD — This fall, Central Maine Power Co. will begin installing 3,716 smart meters here.

For those wishing to learn more about this nationwide effort as it pertains to Rumford or the 21st century technology, a presentation will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, in Rumford Falls Auditorium, Town Manager Carlo Puiia said on Friday afternoon.

The smart meter meeting, which precedes the regular selectmen meeting at 7 p.m., is open to anyone, not just River Valley area residents.

“Even if they’re not from Rumford, they’re welcome to attend from other communities, because I’m sure other communities are going to be impacted,” Puiia said.

The Rumford town office will be notified when installation is ready to start. It will also be regularly updated as the work progresses.
