BATH — A Bath man was arrested early Sunday morning following an hourlong standoff with police officers.

According to a press release issued by the Bath Police Department, John Byrd Jr., 23, surrendered without incident and was charged with criminal threatening and violation of bail conditions. As of Sunday, he was being held at Two Bridges Regional Jail.

Police said that Byrd refused to exit the home at 505 High St. in Bath when they arrived to arrest him after a couple reported that he threatened them with a weapon during a drug deal involving marijuana.

It was not clear whether Byrd lived at this address. The news release issued by authorities reported that several people, including the home’s owner, came out of the house at the end of the standoff.

A search warrant was executed on the home Sunday morning. Police discovered weapons involved in the crime and seized a small amount of drugs and drug paraphernalia. The investigation is ongoing and could lead to additional charges and arrests.
