This is in response to the article about the video sting targeting MaineCare that was printed in the Sun Journal Aug. 12.

I work with people on MaineCare. They are mostly elderly who worked in low-paying jobs most of their lives and paid into the system that made this country great.

I work with disabled people who would prefer not to be and want to have a job and be independent, and we work toward those goals.

I do not want to go back to the days when a 36-year-old woman could not get insurance because she had high blood pressure. When she needed hospital treatment, they would not allow her in because she had no insurance. She died at home at 36 years old, leaving eight children behind. That was my mother.

I encourage officials to go after the people who are perpetrating fraud, but do not go after innocent people who need MaineCare and benefit from it to help them survive.
