Darrell Watson, 41, Orange City, Fla., was driving a Western Express truck north on Route 4 Monday night and thought he was going the wrong way, Livermore Falls Lt. Thomas Gould said. Watson tried to turn around by going through the Food City plaza parking lot in Livermore Falls and did a U-turn and ended up hitting a pole on the edge of the lot and Monroe Street, Gould said. He got stuck and couldn’t pull out. Livermore Falls firefighters cordoned off the area and waited until Central Maine Power Co. came and shut off power. Firefighters worked with Watson to disconnect the truck cab from the trailer to maneuver the truck and trailer so that it could get back onto the road, fire Chief Gerry Pineau said. In the end the truck driver had been going the right way and headed north to Poland Spring Bottling Plant, Gould said. He estimated minimum damage to the truck, registered to Western Express, and about $2,000 to the utility pole. It took about two hours to get it cleared up.
