OXFORD — A driver fell asleep and drifted across the centerline of Route 26 on Monday, causing a three-vehicle accident, according to Oxford police.
There were no major injuries, Oxford patrolman Alan Coffin said. He said the accident happened across from Reid’s Service Center.
Coffin said Michael Fitts, 21, of Paris, was driving his 2000 Dodge Neon south when he crossed the centerline, scraping the side of a northbound tractor-trailer. The 1989 Peterbilt driven and owned by John Tessier, 36, of Livermore, was scraped on one side.
Fitts’ car went around the tractor-trailer and hit a silver Chevrolet sport utility vehicle driven by Tamala Hart of Bethel, who was following behind the tractor-trailer. Hart couldn’t slow down in time and rammed into the back of the Neon, which had spun around after hitting the tractor-trailer, Coffin said.
Coffin said neither Terrier nor Hart were injured. Fitts sustained minor injuries but did not need to be transported to a hospital.
Fitts was not charged in the incident, Coffin said.
