Auburn native Steve Pelletier won the gold medal in the 60-64 age group in the men’s javelin at the Vermont State Senior Track & Field Championships, held Saturday in South Burlington, Vt.

Pelletier, 60, won with a throw of 132 feet, 11 inches, defeating Gene Spaneut of Penn Yan, N.Y., who threw 122-1, along with three other age group competitors. In the process, he outdistanced the entire field of 15 men competing in age groups 50-and-up with each of his four throws.

He will compete next in Sunday’s Granite State Senior games to be held at Livingston Park in Manchester, N.H. Pelletier will face Buzz Gagne from New Hampshire, the second-ranked thrower in the country.

Youth bowling league to start in September

LEWISTON — The Saturday morning youth bowling league at Sparetime Recreation will be holding registration on Wednesday, August 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 3 from 1 to 3 p.m. This league is open to all bowlers between the ages of 4 and 19.
