LEWISTON — Lewiston Adult Education is offering a variety of beginner, intermediate and advanced computer classes starting the week of Aug. 29.
Introductory classes include:
Absolute Beginner Computers is a great way to get introduced into the world of computers. At a comfortable pace, participants will learn what computers are capable of, and how to use a keyboard and mouse to operate one.
Computer Literacy is a beginner course that will provide participants with basic skills in word processing, database management, spreadsheets and other software.
Keyboarding and Computer Basics is designed to help participants become more efficient and knowledgeable in work/office-related computer skills.
Internet Basics in a Day will be an easy-paced one day workshop on using the Internet. Participants will learn how to visit a webpage, search for information, use email, and shop online.
Intermediate-level courses include:
MS Excel I & II will build participants’ skills in creating, managing, and getting the most out of an Excel spreadsheet.
MS PowerPoint Seminar is a one-day hands-on workshop that will equip participants with the skills necessary to create a PowerPoint slideshow.
QuickBooks will provide participants with the skills to use QuickBooks business accounting software. The class will focus on sales transactions, invoicing customers and paying bills. Generating financial reports and reconciling monthly bank statements will also be covered.
Adobe Photoshop Basics provides an introduction into one of the most powerful and widely-used photo editing programs available. Appropriate for artists, designers or business owners, this course will equip participants with the skills to enhance the quality of photos, combine the content of two different pictures, and alter images.
Desktop Publishing with Open Source Software will expose participants to free alternatives to programs like Publisher and InDesign, and teach participants how to use the basic desktop publishing tools available for free to create professional-looking fliers, brochures and more.
Photo Editing with Open Source Software is designed for individuals who are interested in trying out photo editing, but who do not have access to a program like Adobe Photoshop.
A brand-new advanced-level computer class will be offered, designed for individuals interested in pursuing a career as an information technology professional. Introduction to HelpDesk will prepare participants to earn the A+ computer certification. This class will provide students with the knowledge and training required to support and maintain computer hardware and software. Prerequisites: PC Troubleshooting & Maintenance I & II or equivalent experience.
