The 80-year-old W. G. Mallett School on Quebec Street in Farmington has been demolished as part of the project to construct a new school, seen in rear, that will open Aug. 31. Thursday, state and local officials toured the site with contractors and engineers to check on the progress of both the Mallett School and the ongoing renovation at Mt. Blue High School. Valerie Chiang of Maine’s Department of General Services, left, and Rodney Boynton, the owner’s representative from Mt. Blue Regional School District, view the piles of brick, metal and wood that will be recycled or disposed of. The school once stood behind the E.L. Vining & Son excavator. After the debris is removed, excavation will begin for the underground storm water runoff system and the site will eventually become playing fields.
