AUBURN — About 25 members of the Downeasters Barbershop Chorus will entertain at Festival Plaza on Wednesday, Aug. 24, prior to the weekly performance by the Auburn Community Concert Band.

For more than 62 years, the Downeasters, based in Yarmouth, have entertained audiences with their brand of music written in barbershop-style.

The Downeasters is a local chapter of the internationally known Barbershop Harmony Society. The locally based organization competes annually and, in 2009, won the Northeast District competition.

The free performance will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the plaza on downtown Main Street, weather-permitting.

Starting at 7 p.m., the Auburn Community Concert Band will present “Greatest Hits,” the final performance of its annual 11-week outdoor concert series. The free, 75-minute program will include many of the band’s best-known and most requested songs from its past 30 summer seasons.

Bring a lawn chair. If it rains, the concert will be held indoors at the Hilton Garden Inn Auburn Riverwatch at Great Falls Plaza. For more information, call the Auburn Recreation Department at 333-6601, ext. 2108, or visit www.auburncommunityband.com.
