LEWISTON — Peter Stolzfus Berton will give an evening concert on the Casavant organ at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul on Friday, Sept. 2. His program will feature compositions by Bach, Vierne, Widor and Langlais.

Berton is music director at St. John’s Episcopal Church in West Hartford, Conn.

A native of Lancaster, Pa., he began his professional career as a church musician while still in high school. He earned a bacheor’s degree from the University of Michigan School of Music and a master’s degree from the Yale University School of Music.

From 2003 to 2010, he was organist and choir director of All Saints Church in Worcester, Mass., and earlier held music director positions at Christ Episcopal Church in Los Altos, Calif., and Plymouth Church of the Pilgrims, Brooklyn, N.Y.

He has recorded several CDs for JAV Recordingsand is a composer of choral and organ music. He has served as an officer of several chapters of the American Guild of Organists, and as a faculty member of four of the Guild’s Pipe Organ Encounters for young organists.
