AUBURN — Belinda Gerry has announced she is running for re-election to retain her current position on the City Council.

According to Gerry, her decision on whether to run for mayor or seek re-election to the council was based on the feedback received from constituents as she collected petition signatures.

“An overwhelming majority felt that they would be better served if I remained on the council, mostly due to my reputation of always trying to look out for them and putting their needs first,” she said.

Constituents “liked the fact that I was approachable and would really listen to them,” she said.

If re-elected, Gerry said she wants to continue to re-enforce and build working relationships and interaction between the different entities of councilors-mayor, managers-departments and the school departments-committees, and to help disenfranchised residents know their concerns count.

“I have always recognized the fact that one councilor can’t do everything themselves,” she said.

“I want to make sure a balance is kept between bringing in new companies or expanding existing businesses and preserving the integrity of our neighborhood communities,” she said.

Gerry also said her “vision is to help create our city to be something everyone can be proud of, be on board with the direction we are heading, to understand that sometimes it takes time to achieve goals and to know what sacrifices are made are not for nothing.”

And, that, “together as a team, even in this economy, I believe that we can overcome most anything. We are only limited by self-imposed stumbling blocks.”
