Tipping fees for trash discarded at the Lewiston dump on River Road will be charged beginning Sept. 8, according to Public Works Director Christopher C. Branch.
The fees, which will apply to both commercial and non-commercial trash haulers, will generate an estimated $40,000 in income for the city’s general fund between September and December, he said.
In the past, haulers have not been charged for leaving trash at the city’s shredder plant, where debris is shredded for dumping in the nearby municipal landfill. More than 600 tons of trash are shredded at the plant each week.
