PARIS — Selectmen are set to schedule public hearing dates for a possible town fireworks ordinance and for concerns about hunting in the Cornwall Preserve.

Since the state Legislature legalized the sale and use of fireworks in Maine, cities and towns across the state are considering ordinances to further regulate or ban them. The law doesn’t go into effect until Jan. 1, 2012, so the town has plenty of time to write a new ordinance.

The Cornwall Preserve issue came up at the Aug. 8 meeting, when Franca Ainsworth, head of the Cornwall Conservation Commission, passed on complaints from hikers about rude hunters arguing with hikers and making them feel uncomfortable.

Hikers have also complained about animal entrails thrown into small brooks.

Also on the agenda is a discussion of wind power issues. Selectman Jean Smart has raised concerns that the town doesn’t have an ordinance covering wind power and would be unable to regulate a wind farm if one was planned.
