BYRON — Eric Thaddeus Roderick, 60, of East Shore Drive in Byron passed away Friday, Aug. 19, at his home with his loving family and friends by his side.

He was born in Rumford, June 26, 1951, a son of Thaddeus Hector Roderick and Joan Margaret (Mercier) Roderick.

Eric was educated in Rumford schools and a graduate Stephens High School, Class of 1969. Eric was employed by the Oxford Paper Co. for 31 years.

He married Susan Faye (O’Connell) Roderick on Jan. 10, 1976, and together celebrated 35 amazing years of marriage. Eric and Susan had two wonderful children, Corey Roderick of Salk Lake City, Utah, and John Roderick of Breckenridge, Colo.

Eric was a committed skier for more than 50 years, beginning in ski jumping where he earned numerous trophies for his jumps and traveled extensively to the various meets around the Northeast. He was the president of the Chisholm Ski Club in the earlier 1990s, and he continued to organize events and coach the Rumford ski jumping team.

Eric’s fast and incredible style on skies brought him to many ski resorts around the world and has gained many friends in the Après ski pubs, where he loved to meet and talk with new and exciting people.

Proud of two sons, Corey and John, who now live, work and travel the world pursuing passions dedicated to the ski industry and mountain lifestyle. Eric’s skiing continued throughout the 2011 season, where his latest trip was to Salt Lake City, Utah, with son, Corey Roderick, and best friend, John Prebble, to ski the deep powder!

Another achievement for Eric was his dedication to Garland Pond with best friend and father, Thaddeus Roderick, who built a camp that brought more than three generations of family and friends together to hunt, fish, play and discuss world issues through rich conversation and hearty food.

In 1996. Eric completed his dream of building a beautiful home at Garland Pond, where he and his wife, Susan reside. Eric’s passion for preservation, history and nature is truly unique and contagious. He embraced the spirit of all the people of Garland Pond and considered this his place of rest.

Eric Roderick was an active person and leader in his community who was knowledgeable of both local and worldly cultures, traditions and values. Compassionate and caring to lend a hand to anyone, he continued to learn, listen and ski his entire life. He loved and wanted the best for his two sons, Corey and John, and wife, Susan, who now have incredible legacy to live up to.

Eric’s passing was facilitated by hundreds of friends and family who came together to embrace and harness his last energy.
