RANGELEY — The Tartan Terrors is a Celtic group that goes beyond the ordinary, combining the pipes of a two-time world champion bagpiper and drums from around the world with internationally recognized comedic performers and Highland dancers.
The group will perform on Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Lakeside Theater in Rangeley; on Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center in Carthage; and on Thursday, Sept. 1, at Unity College Center for the Performing Arts in Unity.
Curtain is at 7 p.m. at Lakeside and Skye; 7:30 p.m. in Unity. There will be a jam session 45 minutes prior to curtain at Skye and Unity.
Members of the Tartan Terrors have performed on four continents at some of the most prestigious festivals, Highland Games and theaters of North America. They have entertained President Clinton and Queen Elizabeth II; and appeared on “Good Morning America.” They are streaming for on-demand listening in multiple international podcasts, including a spot on “Pulse of the Planet” in Spain.
Ellen Wilkes Irmisch is co-director of the Tartan Terrors along with her brother, Ian. She has a fellowship in ballet and stage (tap and modern jazz) and Highland dance; and certification in Scottish national, step dance and freestyle. She is a member of the Canadian Dance Teachers Association. For the past 26 years, she taught and eventually became artistic director of the Academy of Film and Performing Arts, a studio her mother began in 1961.
Ian Wilkes Irmisch holds credentials with the Alliance of Canadian Television and Radio Arts, Canadian Actor’s Equity Association and the American Federation of Musicians; and is a fellow and examiner for the Canadian Dance Teachers Association. He has appeared in a number of film and television productions; and has trained at Sundance Studios, Ryerson University, Sheridan College and in New York.
Fellow band member Sahra Featherstone, a multi-instrumentalist, has been playing music for more than 15 years. She has two solo albums, and the most recent, “Born of a Summer’s Day,” was nominated for a 2010 Canadian Folk Music Award. The album features her harp, violin and low whistle playing. Besides solo work, she has joined many artists on-stage and in the studio, and has played concerts and music festivals across Canada and the United States. She has recorded on 40-plus albums.
Other band members are guitarist Chris Kerba, persussionist Jon Mc Cann and multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Kevin Mc Keown.
