FARMINGTON — Two Somerset County men each face a felony theft charge after walking out of Walmart Saturday night with a 42-inch HD flat-screen television and other items, according to a police report.

The theft charge rose to a felony charge due to the almost $1,700 total value of all the items, said Bonnie Pomeroy, Farmington Police Department secretary.

Jamie Taylor, 31, of Anson and Joshua Woodbury, 32, of Skowhegan were charged after Farmington police officer William Tanner located their vehicle and stopped them on the Seamon Road, she said.

The television and other items including DVDs, a television mount, a home theater system and food were in the back seat.

Around 8:40 p.m. Saturday police were called after the two were seen leaving the store with the television, which still had an anti-theft device attached to it, Pomeroy said, reading from Tanner’s report.

As Tanner drove toward the Wilton Road store from town, he didn’t see the vehicle described as the one the men left in. Nearing the store, he decided to turn onto Knowlton Corner Road, the first right turn heading east from the store, and then spotted taillights of a vehicle near the Webster Road turn, she said.

He caught up with the vehicle and stopped it on Seamon Road. As he approached the vehicle, he spotted the merchandise in the back seat, she said.

The two men apparently just walked out of the store with the items, acting as though they had paid for them. A large number of thefts at many different stores occur that way, Pomeroy said.

Both men made an initial appearance in Lewiston District Court Monday. By late afternoon Monday, an officer at Franklin County Detention Center was not sure what bail was set as the prisoners had not returned from Lewiston, she said.
