GILEAD — Maine Wing, Civil Air Patrol cadets are enjoying encampment at Bog Brook Training Area in Gilead. They began encampment Aug. 16 and will graduate Aug. 25. Cadets are from squadrons throughout the state. There are 31 cadets and 15 staff members.

This encampment is directed by Lt. Nate Fellows, director of Maine Wing Cadets. Aug. 23 was planned to be the day the cadets experience rappelling, for the first time for many. Eighteen of the cadets have already completed their first orientation flights with Capt. Warren King and Lt. Steve Vorpagel, mission pilots for the Maine Wing.

The cadets have traveled to the woods on a compass course, attended emergency services classes, rocketry history, and aerospace, drill down a miniature drill competition, leadership classes, team building, military customs and courtesies, and much more every day. They rise at 5:30 a.m. for breakfast and participate in a intense workout session.
