So, Maine people are sheep?
I was listening to the national news on the radio and I heard a very interesting statement . . .
“Maine is a kick-the-door-open state.” What does that mean?
Apparently it is common knowledge that when a group or cause wants to get their agenda passed, or on the national radar for legislators, groups will come to Maine and present the issue or cause to voters and, without fail, we generally pass the issue into law.
What?
They simply bring the issue to Maine and we pass it?
Put simply, it seems we are either so incredibly enlightened, or we are so incredibly uneducated on the things that affect our lives that the rest of the country uses us as a war ground to fight their battles.
This make make people angry, but I think it’s the latter, that we are so uneducated about issues that we seem to pass them all. We pass every bond issue (bond means really big loan, by the way). We pass one law after another and rarely ever think about its consequences.
We need to start using our heads more. We need to start using that good ol’ Maine pragmatism that we were known for in the past and stop making decisions from our misplaced sense of ideology.
Let’s take pride in our fine state and in our ability to lead when others do not. Let’s show America that we make our own destiny.
