HANOVER — Elizabeth B. “Betty” Hayden, 79, of Hanover, died peacefully at her residence with her family by her side Wednesday, Aug. 24.
She was born in Hanover, Sept. 16, 1931, the daughter of Ira and Miriam (Cole) Brown, attended local schools and graduated from Gould Academy in Bethel, Class of 1949.
Betty worked at Grant’s Kennebago Camps for several years and at various other jobs in the winters, always managing to have the falls free for deer hunting. She was a Maine Guide for many years specializing in deer hunting.
In 1976, she attended the University of Maine for courses in real estate to obtain her broker’s license. She opened her own office, Hayden’s Realty in 1977 in Poland and worked in real estate until her retirement in 1996, when she moved back to Hanover.
She was a member of the Poland Community Church. She enjoyed hunting, skiing, hiking, splitting wood and spending time with her family.
Betty was married Dec. 26, 1961, to George W. Hayden, they moved to Poland in 1968, and he died in Poland July 30, 1995.
Survivors include two brothers, Stanley and Robert Brown of Hanover; three stepsons, Tom, John and Chris Hayden; four stepgrandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
