WINSLOW — The Winslow Green Wave capitalized on its scoring opportunities Sunday, eliminating the Winthrop Red Sox, 5-2, in the second round of the Pine Tree League senior baseball playoffs.
After spotting Winthrop a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Wave scored three times in the third by way of a bases-loaded walk to Kris Targett, followed by a two-run single off the bat of Jesse LaCasse.
LaCasse had three hits in the game, including a solo home run in the seventh inning.
Winthrop threatened in the fifth and eighth innings. Bob Cochran and Tavis Hasenfus led both frames with back-to-back singles off Winslow’s Rick Doble.
The Sox could only muster one run as Doble worked out of both jams in picking up the complete-game victory.
Joel Fernald matched LaCasse with three hits for the Wave. Ben Muniz pounded out two hits. Winthrop’s Sam Shain repeated along with Cochran and Hasenfus.
In other PTL playoff action, the Tri-Town Yankees fell to West Paris, 11-4; the Rumford Expos squeezed past Bethel, 3-2; and the Auburn White Sox advanced with a 5-4 win over the Dexter Pirates.
