DIXFIELD — Friday’s skies were nearly devoid of cumulus clouds or any hint of impending havoc from Hurricane Irene, which isn’t expected to blow into Maine until Sunday, Aug. 28.
Still, many anticipate high winds and power outages, not to mention heavy rain.
That’s why Friday’s timely delivery of Honda generators had R.S. Osgood and Sons employee Jason Haynes of Dixfield getting the word out by placing capital letters on the longtime East Dixfield company’s sign beside Route 2.
Working from the basket of a forklift on the west-facing side of the sign, Haynes quickly spelled out “Irenes coming! Buy your Honda generator before theyre all gone.”
But when he went up to do the other side, he was missing several E’s and had to radio the store for more letters.
Another employee brought the vowels to the forklift and began tossing them up, one by one as Haynes caught and put them up just as fast.
