SABATTUS — Burnt Meadow Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the of American Revolution, will meet at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at the Sabattus Town Hall, 190 Middle Road (Route 9).

Burnt Meadow Chapter was started in 1948 to further the goals of the society: to preserve heritage and history. Some examples are the dedications of historical places and celebrations of patriotic events.

New President General Merry Ann T. Wright’s goals are to promote “Friendship, service and commitment. Friendship among the members of the DAR, their service to God, home and country and their commitment to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism.” Wright will be in Bangor at the fall meeting of the Maine Society of Daughters of the American Revolution on the Saturday, Sept. 10.

State Regent Virginia Spiller’s theme is “Preserve and Promote Maine’s Heritage through Protecting our Natural Resources.”

Emphasis is placed on service to the past, present and future. One component of this service is to assist troops overseas and to support veterans. Members endeavor to make conscious conservation part of daily lives including recycling. The future is represented by their work and emphasis placed on youth and education.

Mrs. Jayne Bickford will be presenting a program on the Constitution to celebrate Constitution Week, Sept. 17-23.
