HARTFORD — Selectmen voted Thursday to accept a bid for a 17-kilowatt generator from Wescott Electric for $7,302 to supply power to the Town Office.

An Emergency Management Preparedness Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will pay for 50 percent of the amount spent by the town, plus up to the same amount for an in-kind match. In kind refers to hours worked by volunteers.

Road Commissioner Jeremy Johnson reported that though there was little damage to the town roads from Tropical Storm Irene last weekend, the Town Line Road construction will be postponed for two weeks because of damage in Buckfield. The two towns are working on the project together.

Code Enforcement Officer Bill Kennedy asked if a 1.2 acre parcel of land could be sold as a buildable lot despite the three-acre minimum building lot requirement. The lot was formed by property being sold in 1985, Kennedy said, adding that he believes the lot was grandfathered before the 1989 cutoff for lots under three acres.

Realtor Colette Couter was at the meeting to find out if she could sell the lot at the corner of Berry and McSherry roads as a buildable lot.

After hearing Kennedy’s explanation, the board agreed that it was grandfathered and therefore a buildable lot. Kennedy asked that the minutes of the meeting be sent to Couter.

A date of Friday, Oct. 7, was set for a meeting of the Newsletter Committee after the potluck supper. Arthur Harvey and Lenny Eichman are among several volunteers who will work on getting a newsletter published.

Selectmen adopted a Beach Ordinance, which will allow the constable the right to levy fines on people from out of town who are using the beach parking lot.
