LEWISTON — Mellen E. Webster, 85, a former resident of Pond Road, Wales, died Thursday, Sept. 1, at Russell Park Manor, where he had resided for the past year.
He was born on Nov. 17, 1925, in Lewiston, the son of Perley M. and Hazel Witherell Webster. He attended the Wales Corner School, graduated from Monmouth Academy in 1944, and in 1946 graduated from the Auburn Maine School of Commerce. He also attended Bliss Business School and graduated from there in 1950. He attended Pinecap in Lewiston and Vocational Rehab Services in Lewiston.
Mellen worked as a correspondent for the Lewiston Sun, submitting the Wales news. He also was an office clerk for the Cushman Service Co. in Auburn and worked at Highmoor Farms in Monmouth.
He was a member of the Wales Presbyterian Church, secretary of the Wales Senior Citizens, delegate to the Androscoggin Advisory Council, member of the church choir, former secretary and treasurer of the school church and former representative for Explore Scout 150 in Wales.
He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Lawrence A. Webster and Perley M. Webster Jr.; and sister-in-law, Claire Webster.
