ORR’S ISLAND — Eugene G. Veilleux, 95, formerly of 6 Genest St., Lewiston, died Friday, Sept 2, at his son’s home.
Born in Lewiston April 23, 1916, a son of George and Marieanne Goulet Veilleux, he was educated in Lewiston schools and attended Lewiston High School.
He was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish at Holy Family Church, St. Joseph’s Association, and was married to the former Rachel G. Roberge on Aug. 29, 1942. She died Sept. 16, 2003. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion, Post 22, of Lewiston.
He worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier, retiring in 1978. He was also a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, National Association of Federal Employees, Fairlawn Country Club and the Knights of Columbus Council, 106 Third Degree.
He enjoyed golfing and will be remembered for his support of his sons’ playing hockey and many parties at his home.
He is survived by three sons and their spouses, Gerald and Susanne of Lewiston, Roland ‘Larry’ and Anita of Orr’s Island and Phoenix, Ariz., and Eugene and Rachel of Lewiston; his daughter-in-law, Doris Grenham and her husband, Matt, of Lewiston; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; his brother, Laurent E. Veilleux and his wife, Marinne, of Lewiston; a sister-in-law, Jeannette Potvin of Auburn; and his brothers-in-law, Marcel Toutain of Lewiston and Roland Roberge of Auburn.
He was predeceased by two sons, Paul and Richard Veilleux.
